Motorcycle crash claims life of longtime Trial Court officer Franklyn Torres

Springfield Police are investigating a motorcycle crash Thursday night that claimed the life of a longtime Massachusetts Trial Court officer.

A spokeswoman for the Massachusetts Trial Court confirmed the victim of the crash was Franklyn Torres, chief officer for the Northampton Court Complex. She referred other inquiries about the crash to the Springfield Police Department and Hampden district attorney’s office.

Torres was riding a motorcycle involved in a collision with a car at the intersection of Parker and Frederic streets shortly after 8 p.m., according to a police department spokesman.

“The adult male motorcycle rider was transferred to Baystate where he succumbed to his injuries,” said police spokesman Ryan Walsh, who did not include an identification of the rider in his statement.

Torres was a husband and father who was active in the youth baseball community, friends say.

More details about the circumstances of the accident are not yet available. Walsh said the driver of the vehicle that collided with Torres’ motorcycle remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

This is a developing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.

Correction: This article has been updated to correct the spelling of the victim’s name, Franklyn Torres.
