Pittsfield man killed in 3rd fatal motorcycle crash in 3 days in Western Mass

PITTSFIELD – A 65-year-old motorcycle operator was killed in a collision with a car Monday morning.

Stanley Dipietro, of Pittsfield, was taken to Berkshire Medical Center by Action Ambulance after the 10:45 a.m. crash. He died later at the hospital, said Andrew McKeever, spokesman for Berkshire District Attorney Andrea Harrington.

This is the third fatal motorcycle crash to occur in Western Massachusetts in three days. Gregory Papageorge, 39, of Hatfield, died Saturday morning in a crash in that town and on Sunday a man, whose name has not been released yet, was killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday on Route 63 in Northfield.

Dipietro was riding a Harley Davidson east on East Street and entered the intersection of Newell Street. There he collided head-on with a 2002 Honda CRV operated by a 78-year-old Pittsfield resident as she was turning left on Newell Street.

The driver and her 86-year-old passenger were brought to Berkshire Medical Center to be treated for injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, McKeever said.

The Pittsfield Police Traffic Unit is investigating the crash. Anyone who witnessed it or the actions of either driver before the collision is asked to call Officer David Hallas at 413-448-9700 Ext. 560, he said.
