A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday night in a crash on Interstate 5 near Sacramento’s Pocket neighborhood, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officers responded around 11:15 p.m. to reports of a motorcycle rider down on northbound I-5 near Florin Road, the CHP’s South Sacramento office said in a news release.
Investigators determined that a 27-year-old Sacramento man driving a 2006 Yamaha was ejected from the motorcycle after braking and overturning in the No. 3 lane of traffic.
Fire personnel responded and pronounced the motorcyclist dead at the scene, with the coroner dispatched around 11:30 p.m., according to the CHP online activity log.
The CHP’s online log initially showed the incident as being reported by a witness as a hit-and-run involving a sedan; however, the CHP news release made no reference of another vehicle being involved. Anyone who witnessed or has information on the incident is asked to contact the CHP South Sacramento office.
The CHP said the cause of the crash is under investigation, and it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
The victim’s identity will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office pending notification of family.
