Man arrested in shooting while trying to recover stolen motorcycle

Phoenix police arrested a man who they said tried to recover his friend’s stolen motorcycle and shot a person who was driving it Tuesday in the area of Roosevelt and 9th streets.

Police identified the man arrested as Cole Lane Versteegh, 27. He told police the shooting was in self-defense, court records show.

The motorcycle was reported stolen Friday in Tempe and the registered owner asked for help tracking the motorcycle in Facebook posts, police said. The owner received a notification about it being seen in the area of Roosevelt Street and 9th Street on Tuesday and told friends, including Versteegh.

Court records state Versteegh said he confronted the man who had the motorcycle and told him to wait until the owner arrived. The man said he had bought the motorcycle from someone else and that it belonged to him now, according to Versteegh.

ARVADA, Colo. (KDVR) — Ten suspects were arrested in four states on Jan. 26 for a deadly 2020 shooting involving rivaling motorcycle clubs, Arvada police said.

Several local and federal law enforcement agencies from Florida to California worked with the Arvada Police Department on thousands of hours of investigation into the case that killed 43-year-old William Henderson.

“These violent defendants have been removed from the street because of the perseverance of dedicated law enforcement men and women from Arvada PD and multiple other agencies. Man arrested, charged in fatal 2019 crash in Wichita, Kansas

A Kansas man has been arrested and charged in a fatal 2019 accident in south Wichita in which the passenger on a motorcycle he drove was killed, records shows.

Travis James Brent Bryson was arrested at his home on Wednesday. He was charged last week on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and operating a vehicle without a proper license, according to Sedgwick County court records. Bryson had his first appearance in court Thursday morning.

Bryson, 31, was released from jail Thursday after posting a $50,000 bond, according to Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Benjamin Blick.

The charges are in connection with a July 21, 2019, fatal crash. The accident happened around 10:34 p.m. on southbound I-135.

Suspect arrested in slaying of Fresno, CA homeless man

Fresno police Monday identified a member of a motorcycle gang as the suspect in a brutal slaying of a Tower District homeless man in mid-December.

Jesse Gonzalez, 33, of the Savage Assassins motorcycle group, was in the Sutter County Jail and awaiting extradition to Fresno on murder charges.

Angel Cortez Flores, 27, was killed in a strip mall at Palm and Olive avenues on Dec. 18, according to police. He was found with multiple stab wounds by three volunteers who were handing out holiday tamales to the homeless.

Friday, the Fresno police SWAT team served warrants at the Savage Assassins clubhouse near East Belmont and North First Street in connection with the slaying.
