Detroit. As longtime AE readers know, my formative years were a blur of fast cars (with my older brother Tony behind the wheel), plus experiencing the latest concepts from GM Styling in the flesh (with none other than Design Legend Bill Mitchell at the wheel). It was a different time and a different era to be sure. Everything was seemingly on an upward trajectory. More power. More Speed. More dynamic and exciting new cars arriving onto the scene on a daily basis.

You Can Now Own a Scale Model of the 2009 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport

This little car is not something you want your kids to play with. The Amalgam Collection has unveiled a 1:8 scale model of the 2009 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport—one of the fastest production cars ever built—and this shrunk-down version will set you back $14,093.

The UK company has made a name for itself painstakingly recreating coveted cars, like the 1:4 scale model of Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance car that it debuted and sold out last December. And now it has produced 99 of the famed Veyron supercars, 51 fewer than the French marque originally produced and sold for $2.2 million a pop more than a decade ago. The 24-inch models are currently available in either black with orange interior or blue with a cognac cabin, while the white version has already sold out.

Lotus Eletre electric SUV revealed

Lotus has unveiled the Eletre, an electric SUV and the first of a range of EVs from the British sports car manufacturer.

The Eletre, which will be followed by three more ‘lifestyle’ electric models, is the first step in the company’s planned transformation from a niche sports car manufacturer to what its management describes as a “truly global performance car brand”.

The Eletre is dubbed a ‘hyper SUV’ – built on a new electric platform designed in-house by Lotus, the four-wheel-drive vehicle will offer power outputs starting at 600hp. Lotus expects it to record a sub three-second 0-62mph time and be capable of a top speed of 161mph.

The vehicle will also boast battery capacity to match its output – the 800-volt powertrain will use batteries of 100kWh plus. Official battery range is targeted at 373 miles, while an onboard charger of 350kW capacity will allow the car to recover
