A quick-thinking driver dodged a motorcycle rider and his pillion passenger after they crashed in northern Thailand. The driver was travelling across a highway when a rider and his passenger was knocked to the ground in front of him after they were clipped by another car in Chiang Mai province on June 25. He skillfully swerved the vehicle to the right with enough space to evade the rider and a woman on the left and avoid crashing onto a road barrier on the right. No one was seriously hurt except for the rider and his pillion who had scratches on their arms and elbows. Their motorcycle had some scratches as well. The driver’s sibling Pao Akhaphat who was also in the car when the incident happened said: ‘My brother is an experienced driver. He had always been a safe driver. ‘Those two were not even wearing helmets and could have been in more danger if not for my brother who was alert on the road.’ Thailand’s recorded road traffic death toll is consistently among the highest in the world with dozens of people dying every day in traffic accidents.
