Maryland State Police said a trooper’s vehicle collided with a motorcycle Saturday night in Ocean City.
The incident involved Trooper First Class Cody Shubert, a three-year state police veteran assigned to the Berlin Barrack. He was in an unmarked agency-issued 2020 Ford Explorer helping the Ocean City Police Department with road patrol for Bike Week, according to a Sunday news release.
It was shortly after 8:35 p.m., police said, when Shubert noticed a vehicle in front of him operating without lights while heading south on Philadelphia Avenue near the 12th Street intersection.

Shubert tried to go through the intersection intending to initiate a traffic stop, according to police. At the same time, a three-wheel motorcycle going north on Philadelphia Avenue attempted a left turn at 12th Street. The motorcycle crossed Shubert’s path and the two collided in the intersection.
Police said the motorcycle’s driver and passenger were taken by helicopter to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional in Salisbury and then moved to Chrstiana Hospital in Newark for treatment. Shubert was taken to Atlantic General Hospital and has since been released.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is investigating the incident.
