Fatal motorcycle accident, Cleveland police search for information on SUV that left scene

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – Cleveland police search for SUV that fled the scene of a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon near Woodland Avenue and East 47th Street.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. “I’ve never seen anyone leave this Earth like that,” one witness said. The victim’s name is being withheld by authorities pending family notification.

At approximately 1 p.m., a rider on a Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling westbound on Woodland Avenue when they lost control and was thrown from the motorcycle, according to Cleveland police. A dark SUV was traveling eastbound and the motorcycle may have been thrown into the driver’s side.

People near the scene of the accident described the frantic and confused moments following the impact.

“Tears, people crying,” another witness said. “Broke them up pretty bad, really bad.”

It is unknown what caused the motorcyclist to lose control.

Cleveland History Center to celebrate the Year of the Motorcycle with pair of exhibits

CLEVELAND, Ohio — If you consider yourself a motorcycle enthusiast and appreciate vintage cruisers, custom choppers and cool hogs, you’ll find plenty to gawk at when the Cleveland History Center launches “The Year of the Motorcycle” with a pair of exhibits starting in August.

The first, “A Century of the American Motorcycle,” comes from the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum in Birmingham, Alabama. The Cleveland History Center, home to the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum, describes the collection of over 30 motorcycles as an “extensive look into the technical and esthetic development of American motorcycles in particular, from the 1905 Indian Single, to the 1907 Merkel Light, on through the Twentieth Century, right up to the 2018 Motus MST.”

1 person dead, another injured after motorcycle crash on East 139th Street in Cleveland

CLEVELAND — One person was killed and another person was injured after a motorcycle crash on Cleveland’s East Side Friday, according to the Cleveland Division of Police.

EMS crews and police responded at approximately 2:20 a.m. to East 139th Street and Miles Road for a crash.

The motorcycle driver, identified as a 37-year-old man, was making a left turn at East 139th Street when it struck a curb and ejected a 34-year-old female passenger onto the road.

The driver and the motorcycle continued down the road before it struck a pole near Miles Avenue and East 139th Street.

A 34-year-old female was transported to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in serious condition with several abrasions, police said.
