Husband and wife die in motorcycle crash on Blue Ridge Parkway in NC, officials say

A married couple died in a crash along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina, officials said.

Larry McElroy, 70, was riding a motorcycle south on the parkway at about 5 p.m. Tuesday with his wife Brenda, 71, as a passenger, according to park rangers.

McElroy reportedly was driving around a curve when he crossed into oncoming traffic, striking a van.

“CPR was performed by an off-duty firefighter and doctor that came upon the accident until local EMS also arrived,” the Blue Ridge Parkway said Wednesday in a news release.

McElroy and his wife died at the scene, officials said. They were from Williamson, Georgia, roughly 45 miles south of Atlanta.

No one in the van was injured, officials said.

The investigation into the crash continues as officials look into other possible contributing factors, park rangers said.

Officials warn to be cautious of motorcycles on the roadways this summer

DAVIESS Co., KY. (WFIE) – As the weather gets warmer, we’re starting to see more motorcycles on the roadways. We’re also seeing more motorcycle accidents like the one in Daviess County.

Police officer attacked during traffic stop, officials say

LIVERMORE — A police officer said he was attacked and injured during a traffic stop Friday morning, the Livermore Police Department said.

A Livermore police motorcycle officer stopped a brown Toyota Tundra on Isabel Avenue between Interstate 580 and Portola Avenue at about 11:45 am., a news release said.

When the officer was beginning to dismount his motorcycle, the suspect driver abruptly put his pickup truck into reverse and accelerate at a high rate of speed backward directly at the officer and his motorcycle, according to police.

Police say the officer was forced to jump from his motorcycle into an incoming lane of traffic on Isabel Avenue. The suspect ran over the police motorcycle causing significant damage and rendering it disabled before fleeing the scene, police said.

Officials reminding community of motorcycle safety as weather warms up

With more motorcyclists on the road thanks to warmer weather, Thursday’s fatal motorcycle accident reminds us that everyone needs to be more cautious while driving.

While motorcycle enthusiasts are glad to be on the road again, PennDOT and Harley Davidson of Erie have some advice about the safety measures and courses riders can take to be safe on two wheels.

The warm temperatures are here and motorcyclists are back on the road, with safety being the number one priority for riders.

“For motorcyclists, it’s obviously make sure that you’re licensed, we encourage people to wear helmets, even if they’re not required to do so, to make sure that your bikes are in good condition, and make sure that you’re aware of, you know, the road that you’re going on.” said Jill Harry
