Midlands motorcycle group raises money for local mother with cancer

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – The Shifting Gears Motorcycle Group hosted an hour-long ride that was part of an event at Harley Haven to support Erica Bryant — a local mother with Stage III breast cancer.

The event included a barbecue lunch donated by vendors, live music, a silent auction and crafts vendors. Motorcyclists gathered and rode together for an hour and came back to Harley Haven to enjoy food and drinks. Shifting Gears says all proceeds go to the Bryant family.

Bryant was recently diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC), a rare and very aggressive type of the disease, according to the American Cancer Society. The National Cancer Institute reports IBC accounts for only 1% to 5% of all breast cancer cases in the U.S. and spreads quickly — in a matter of weeks to months — so, it is typically diagnosed in advanced stages.

NYPD to crack down on motorcycles, mopeds in pedestrian paths on 59th St. Bridge

The NYPD says it is taking action on motorcycles and mopeds invading pedestrian and bicycle paths on the 59th Street Bridge

However, a visit to the bridge on Friday afternoon saw a huge number of the vehicles using the pedestrian walkway, similar to when FOX 5 NY visited earlier this week

Mopeds and motorcycles are prohibited on the bridge’s pedestrian and bicycle paths. 

Mayor Bill de Blasio had vowed to take action on the issue, saying on Wednesday that he would speak to the city’s transportation commissioner about the problem.

Oak Cottage Resident ‘Living the Dream’ with Motorcycle Ride Along Santa Barbara Waterfront | Local News

Santa Barbara resident James Vincent was able to live out his dream one last time as he rode in the sidecar of a motorcycle and raced down the Santa Barbara waterfront on sunny Friday morning, a dream made possible through Oak Cottage Memory Care’s “Living the Dream” program.

The program is an integral senior living program offered at Oak Cottage, a care center specializing in Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, that allows the community to make an Oak Cottage resident’s dream come true every three months.

“A lot of our residents aren’t able to communicate their needs and wants verbally, so it feels really great to help them and watch them do something they love,” activity coordinator Denise Omana told Noozhawk. “I feel like it’s the least we can do for our residents.”
