Motorcycle deputy injured in Valencia crash
A motorcycle deputy suffered major injuries in a crash on Valencia on Wednesday morning.
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department motorcycle deputy was injured in a crash Wednesday morning involving a semi-trailer truck in the Valencia neighborhood of Santa Clarita.
The crash was reported around 7:20 a.m. near the intersection of McBean Parkway and Creekside Road, according to the sheriff’s department.
“Apparently, there’s a semi truck, 18-wheeler, did a left-hand turn right in front and failed to yield for the oncoming traffic, the motorcycle, and it was a head-on collision,” Sheriff Alex Villanueva said.
The motorcycle deputy, assigned to the sheriff’s Santa Clarita Valley Station, was taken to a hospital in serious condition. He was on duty at the time of the crash, the sheriff’s department reported.
Villanueva identified the deputy as Chad Perrigo.
“It’s going to be a long road to recovery,” the sheriff said. “Our thoughts and prayers to him and his family. … It’s again illustrative of the dangers of this job.”
