1 person dead after motorcycle crash on US-19 in Tarpon Springs

Police say the 28-year-old driver was wearing a helmet, but believe it was not properly secured.

TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. — A motorcycle crash on US Highway 19 left one person dead late Wednesday night, authorities reported. 

Officers were sent to the scene of a motorcycle crash just south of Beckett Way in Tarpon Springs.

Upon arrival to the scene, authorities say they discovered one injured male rider. Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue treated his wounds and transported him to Bayonet Point Medical Center.

Another 28-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. 

A news release says investigators were told a large group of motorcycles was traveling southbound on US-19 heading to Tampa. The 28-year-old reportedly swerved into another motorcycle causing both of them to go down.

Two people on a motorcycle died Sunday after they were struck by a vehicle that had crossed the center line of Illinois 78 in Henry County, Sheriff’s investigators said.

The crash occurred at about 2:30 p.m. in the area of 880N and Illinois 78 just north of Kewanee.

A passenger car that was southbound on Illinois 78 crossed the center line into the northbound lane and struck the motorcycle.

The car then struck an SUV that also was northbound. 

The driver and passenger of the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene.

The occupants from the other two vehicles were taken to a local hospital.

The names of the deceased were not released Sunday.

The crash remains under investigation by the Henry County Sheriff’s Department.

Blue Ridge Parkway motorcycle crash leaves Weaverville man dead

A Weaverville man died July 31 in a single-vehicle collision on his motorcycle on the Blue Ridge Parkway, according to a statement from the National Park Service.

Shawn Emory, 38, of Weaverville, the motorcycle driver, was pronounced dead later that day at a “local hospital,” the news release said. 

Parkway dispatchers received a report at 9:30 a.m. July 31 of a single motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle near Milepost 398, near the Chestnut Cove Overlook about 5 miles south of Asheville at the N.C. 191/Brevard Road intersection.

When rangers arrived on the scene, according to the news release, they “observed the motorcycle laying on its side near the guard rail.”
