Harley Davidson rider died in Fairfield County crash: SC cops

A motorcycle rider was killed in a late-night crash on a Midlands road, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle collision happened at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday on Wateree Road in Fairfield County, said Master Trooper David Jones. That’s near U.S. 21 on the west side of Lake Wateree.

A 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was heading south on Wateree Road when it went off the left side of the road, according to Jones. The motorcycle hit a ditch and the rider was ejected, Jones said.

The motorcycle rider was taken to an area hospital and later died, according to Jones. There was no word if the rider wore a helmet.

The Fairfield County Coroner’s Office is expected to publicly identify the motorcycle rider after notifying the next of kin.

No other injuries were reported.

Motorcycle strikes, kills pedestrian in Warren County

BOLTON – One of many people at a large gathering on a Warren County highway was struck by a motorcycle and killed early Saturday morning, sheriff’s investigators said.

Ghaland Nadeau, 33, who was in the roadway, was struck by a Honda motorcycle driven by Steven Gosselin, 22, who was heading west on Route 11, deputies said. The bike then struck one of the parked cars in the road’s shoulder. 

Deputies said they were patrolling the area near Valley Woods Road to investigate suspected drag racing, having received reports of racing the previous evening. Numerous vehicles were found to be lining the road with large groups of people walking in the road. Deputies responded to the collision  few minutes after midnight.

Nadeau was pronounced dead at the scene. Gosselin’s passenger, Samantha Briggs, 25, was thrown off the motorcycle and was flown to Albany Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, deputies said.

Apple says iPhone cameras can be hurt by motorcycle vibrations

If you’ve been rockin’ down the highway with your iPhone mounted on your motorcycle, you might want to think again. On Friday, Apple said certain motorcycle engines can give your iPhone’s camera bad vibes.

“Exposing your iPhone to high amplitude vibrations within certain frequency ranges, specifically those generated by high-power motorcycle engines, can degrade the performance of the camera system,” the company said in a post on its support site.

The vibes are channeled through the chassis and handlebars, so you shouldn’t attach your phone to motorcycles with high-power or high-volume engines, the company said.
